First Treatment

It is important that the patient feels relaxed, comfortable and safe. The Clinic is in a homely environment in a still and peaceful place. In the first session a detailed medical case history will be noted down. You will be asked questions about your general health, any accidents, dental treatment, and any relevant areas of health including emotional stresses that you have at present or have had in the past.

Osteopaths are trained to diagnose conventionally and also to use their hands to assess body function and dysfunction. This gives the osteopath uniquely sensitive information about the disability within the body and how this insight might be used to help restore health.

What to bring

Please bring any scan results, blood tests etc. and a list of your medications and supplements to your first appointment.

BEFORE ATTENDING FOR THE FIRST TIME PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND FILL IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE BELOW.

What to wear

After the case history there will be a full examination which includes looking at the posture and mobility in the spine and joints. This means undressing down to your underwear; if it makes you feel comfortable you may like to wear shorts or a swimsuit.

Adult patients may bring a chaperone. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

To feel for your state of health and any particular strain patterns we will put our hands on some part of your body. We gently attune to you to obtain an integrated diagnosis.

Any appropriate tests may be performed such as taking your reflexes or blood pressure.

Babies and Children

There are toys for them to play with but please bring along any favourite books or toys. Sometimes it is helpful to feed them during treatment, either breast or bottle. Please tell them that Susan will be holding their heads or backs etc., so that they are prepared and know what to expect.

Diagnosis & Treatment

Before treatment I take care to ask permission.

Osteopathic diagnosis and treatment is fashioned to the individual person and is guided by the interpretation of palpations.

Advice may be given on diet, lifestyle, exercise etc.

After Treatment

Depending upon your particular problems you may initially feel tired, sore, unsettled or emotional. These feelings can be a typical response to the treatment and means that your body is adjusting. If it lasts for more than a few days or you have any worries about the treatment please do not hesitate to contact the clinic.

Daniel had his first consultation with Sue when he was 5 or 6. He had been having severe headaches for many weeks and from as long as we could remember he had very poor coordination. After a number of treatments the headaches went and he improved substantially.
